Travel takes toll on the Cards

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — Despite 14 kills from Morgan Claus, a sophomore from Moscow High, the Cardinals fell 25-15, 22-25, 25-13, 25-9 to the 13th-ranked Bruins in SWAC play at Bruin Arena.

"We knew for us to counter their size advantage, we would have to be great in the serve and pass game," NIC coach Drew Pascua said. "And Salt Lake served us really tough today."

NIC (7-8, 2-1 SWAC) won in three sets over Colorado Northwestern in Rangely, Colo., on Friday night.

"After driving eight hours and competing the night before, we just didn't have the legs to get our passing in rhythm today," Pascua said. "And that bled into our offense."

Freshman Rylie Dolven had 24 assists, freshman Brecklan Weaver 10 digs for NIC, which hosts Utah State-Eastern of Price, Utah, on Thursday.

Salt Lake is 13-8, 2-2.
