North Idaho Women's Volleyball takes two to open at Bellevue tourney

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Maybe it was the rest, or practice time.

Whatever it was, it was well earned for the North Idaho College volleyball team.

On Friday, NIC opened with straight sets wins at the NWAC Crossover at Bellevue College, beating Everett 25-19, 25-18, 25-13, then sweeping Chemeketa 25-18, 25-21, 25-19.

NIC opened conference play on Wednesday, beating Treasure Valley in four sets, its first match since Sept. 2.

"Our preseason schedule was very long, and it showed with how we played in the Columbia Basin tournament," NIC coach Brittany Tilleman said. "That week off allowed us to rest and refocus on what we need to accomplish going forward."

Against Everett, sophomore Rylee Hartwig had nine kills, sophomore Jessica Stires seven kills and four blocks, freshman Karolyne Wolfgramm 28 assists and freshman Omayra Valle 12 digs and two aces for NIC.

"We did a good job of keeping them out of system and not giving them any points from the service line," Tilleman said. "We were able to space out our hitters and really take advantage of some things."

Against Chemeketa, Wolfgramm had 22 assists and 11 digs for NIC.

"Karolyne really did a good job of keeping the team focused," Tilleman said. "Chemeketa had some good energy and she kept everyone in the match."

Hartwig had seven kills, Valle 17 digs and freshman Abigail Beaton five kills and two blocks for NIC (11-1), which concludes pool play today against Lower Columbia College at 11 a.m., with another match against a team to be determined at 3 p.m.
