Cardinals bow out in NWAC quarterfinals

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — North Idaho College, the third-seed from the East Region, had its season come to an end on a goal by Elliana Barden in the 95th minute of a 1-0 loss to Peninsula, the top seed from the North Region in the Northwest Athletic Conference quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.

NIC, which lost 2-1 at Peninsula on Aug. 19,  finished 13-5-4.

NIC sophomore goalkeeper Kaycee Chavez had 10 saves.

Peninsula (17-0-2) advances to face either Bellevue or Spokane in the semifinals on Friday at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Wash.

First half — none. Second half — none. Overtime — 1, Pen, Elliana Barden (Shawna Larson), 95:42.

Shots on goal — NIC 2, Pen 11.

Saves — NIC, Kaycee Chavez 10; Pen, Talia Marini 2.
