Cardinals rally to down Yakima Valley

YAKIMA, Wash. — Finding her team down 1-0 at halftime, North Idaho College coach Kellsi Parson reminded her team of something simple.

"Continue being us."

Freshman forward Adison Stoddard scored in the 81st minute for the Cardinals, who rallied to beat the Yakima Valley Yaks 2-1 in a Northwest Athletic Conference match on Saturday.

Freshman Kara Michaelis scored in the 70th minute for NIC to tie the match at 1-1.

"It took us a little longer than we'd like to score," Parson said. "But the girls turned in on in the last 20 minutes and played really well. I was pretty excited with what they accomplished at the end of the game."

NIC (8-4-1, 4-2-1 NWAC) returns home to face Blue Mountain on Wednesday.

Yakima Valley is 4-5, 3-4.

First half — 1, YVC, Brynn Rees (unassisted), 41:00. Second half — 2, NIC, Kara Michaelis (unassisted), 70:00. 3, NIC, Adison Stoddard (unassisted), 81:00.
