Cards score 5; leave Wenatchee scoreless

COEUR d'ALENE — Still a work in progress, but the Cardinals didn't show it much in their conference home opener at Eisenwinter Field.

Adison Stoddard scored on an assist from Kara Michaelis in the seventh minute, one of three first half goals in a shutout of the Knights.

"The girls came out with the possession game ready to go," NIC coach Kellsi Parson said. "We connected like we wanted and our first goal, it was one of the best goals we've had in a long time. I thought we played well and we're still getting to where we need to be. But we're 2-0 in conference, so we'll take it."

NIC (6-2, 2-0 NWAC) hosts the Community Colleges of Spokane on Saturday.

Wenatchee Valley is 0-3-1, 0-2-0.
