North Idaho College, Spokane Sports Commission to run Spokane Open Wrestling Tournament

North Idaho College and the Spokane Sports Commission agreed to a partnership to run the Spokane Open Wrestling Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 19 at The Podium in Spokane.

Open to collegiate wrestling teams or individuals with a USA Wrestling membership, the tournament uses NCAA weight classes and rules for men and NAIA (UWW) rules for women.

Spokane Open Wrestling Tournament Founder Craig Hanson started the event in 2009 has run it independently since. The tournament helped grow the sport in the Northwest by showcasing collegiate wrestling in the area.

"For decades, North Idaho College has had a high-performing wrestling program, capturing NJCAA titles, individual champions and All-Americans," Spokane Sports CEO Ashley Blake said. "We welcome the opportunity to partner and produce a first-rate event."

"I am very excited to partner up with the Spokane Sports Commission and keep this great tradition alive," Booth said. "This is a great opportunity to help grow college wrestling in the northwest and bring high-level competition to Spokane. The Spokane Open has been a staple of the wrestling community and we look forward to continuing it."
