Cardinal women notch road sweep in Utah
PRICE, Utah — The visiting North Idaho College Cardinals limited the Utah State-Eastern Eagles to 29.4% shooting in the fourth quarter in a 65-61 Scenic West Athletic Conference win at the Bunnell-Dmirtrich Athletic Center.
"Utah State-Eastern is a good team and well coached," NIC coach Nathan Covill said. "To come here and play the way we did in the fourth quarter, it's exciting to see. Our kids followed the scout really well and had very little time to practice. The things we put in worked really good. This isn't an easy place to play. They're a good team and played CSI really tough (a 63-60 loss on Thursday)."
Freshman Esmeralda Galindo scored 31 points, freshman Chloe Collin 11 points and sophomore Kylani Rookstool had eight points for NIC (11-8, 3-2 SWAC), which faces Colorado Northwestern In Rangely, Colo., on Thursday.
"The kids are starting to play with more confidence, with Kylani usually on the other team's best perimeter player," Covill said. "We did a really good job of executing things down the stretch. I'm proud of them for getting a road sweep and finishing the way they did was something to be proud of."
Madison Anderson scored 18 points for Utah State-Eastern (10-9, 2-3).
