Men fall to USE

COEUR d'ALENE — Freshman defender Richard Bollanga scored twice in the first half for the 11th-ranked Cardinals, but a late goal by Boston Peterson gave the visitors from Price, Utah, the Scenic West Athletic Conference win at Eisenwinter Field.

Utah State-Eastern's Davis Bormanis scored in the 55th minute to tie the game, then Peterson scored on an assist from Owen Gaisford for the final score.

"We had a couple of chances to win the game, and didn't finish the ball," NIC coach Brad Williams said. "We had a couple of unlucky bounces and a few that we did to ourselves. It's been a little bit of a rough period being depleted with injuries. To drop back-to-back games, it's disappointing, but we'll get back to work and hopefully on the winning track."

On Thursday, Salt Lake clinched the conference title and will host the top four teams in the Region 18 men's and women's tournament in Taylorsville, Utah, with semifinal games on Oct. 31 and the championship on Nov. 2.

Third-place NIC (12-2-3, 7-2-3 SWAC) hosts Colorado Northwestern on Thursday, and Salt Lake on Saturday.

Utah State-Eastern is in fourth at 6-6-3, 6-4-2.
