NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinal men shine under lights at War Memorial Field

SANDPOINT — The atmosphere was all that and more at War Memorial Field as North Idaho College opened Scenic West Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

Freshman Ismael Mane recorded a hat trick for the Cardinals, who beat Pacific Northwest Christian of Kennewick, Wash., 14-0 in the conference opener for both schools.

The NIC men and women played in Sandpoint in conjunction with a youth soccer tournament there this weekend.

"It was good," NIC coach Brad Williams said. "We were expecting a little bigger crowd, but it was still a great setting. It's great to play under the lights and on the turf up here."

NIC (6-0) faces Southern Idaho at Eisenwinter Field. It will be the first meeting between the in-state rivals after CSI started its program this fall.

"It's going to be great to get back on the grass at Eisenwinter Field," Williams said. "We're eager to get back home."
