COEUR d'ALENE — Freshman guard Vaughn Weems had 18 points and three steals off the bench for the Cardinals in a win over the Lilac City Legends, a professional men's basketball team based out of Spokane at Rolly Williams Court.

"Vaughn has been one of our steadiest players this season," NIC coach Corey Symons said. "He comes off the bench because he always gives us a spark."

Redshirt freshman Tayshawn Colvin had 20 points off the bench for NIC (2-2), going 11 of 12 from the free throw line.

"Being a freshman, it took Tayshawn a few games to get up to the speed of the game," Symons said. "Each game, we're getting a little better as a team, which we want to see."

NIC hosts the Gonzaga club team on Monday.

Dirk Snel, who played collegiately at Everett and Hawaii-Hilo, scored 22 points for Lilac City.
