Cards conclude tournament in Arizona
TUCSON, Ariz. — The Cardinals concluded play in the Aztec Classic with a 25-24, 26-24, 25-21 loss to the Coyotes of Chandler, Ariz., at Pima Community College.
"We came out flat today," NIC coach Drew Pascua said. "Fourth match in three days, that's a lot of jumps and bodies hitting the floor and it added up. Chandler-Gilbert played pretty quick and we didn't have the extra burst we had on Day 1 and 2 to keep up. We kept it very close, but couldn't find a way to execute late in the sets."
NIC (3-5), which finished 2-2 in Arizona, hosts Columbia Basin and Yakima Valley on Friday on the first day of the NIC Invitational at Christianson Gymnasium.
"It was great competition this weekend," Pascua said. "We've seen significant improvement in some key areas, particularly our blocking and really hit some nice offensive strides, so it's a good growth weekend for us."
